Badges

Badges are achievements you earn as you write. There are two milestone ladders that climb automatically with your totals, and a set of special event badges that appear when you do something particular. All of your badges are shown on your public profile.

The word-count ladder

You earn a badge each time your all-time word total crosses a tier. There are nine tiers:

  • 1K words
  • 10K words
  • 50K words
  • 100K words
  • 500K words
  • 1M words
  • 2M words
  • 3M words
  • 4M words

These count words written (additions, ignoring anything you later cut), which is the same figure as Words all-time on your statistics. Because your total only ever grows, a word badge can never be taken away โ€” deleting a chapter will not cost you one. Every existing account arrives with its full history already credited.

The streak ladder

You also earn a badge for the length of your best-ever writing streak โ€” the longest run of consecutive days you have written. There are nine tiers:

  • 5 days
  • 15 days
  • 30 days
  • 60 days
  • 100 days
  • 150 days
  • 200 days
  • 280 days
  • 365 days

Streak badges use your best streak, not your current one, so an achievement survives the streak ending.

Special badges

Beyond the ladders is a set of named event badges, earned by doing particular things as you write, host, read, and tidy up. Each one stays hidden until you earn it โ€” a locked special badge is not shown at all, so most of them arrive as a genuine surprise. Names like Night Owl and Cast of Thousands hint at the flavour of what is waiting; the rest are yours to stumble into. Once earned, a special badge is permanent.

On your profile

Every badge you have earned is displayed on your public profile. Each carries hover and screen-reader text naming the badge, how it was earned, and the date. Ladder tiers you have not yet reached are shown greyed out as something to aim for; special badges you have not earned stay hidden entirely.
