Recycle bin

Deleting a story, part, chapter, or scene does not destroy it straight away. Instead it goes to your Recycle bin, where it waits until you either bring it back or clear it out for good.

What goes to the bin

When you delete a story or any piece of its structure — a part, a chapter, or a scene — the item is moved to the recycle bin rather than removed. This is a soft delete: the item disappears from your library and editor but is still safely stored, so an accidental deletion is easy to undo.

Open the recycle bin from the link at the top of your stories. It lists everything you have deleted, labelled by type and shown with the story it came from, so you can tell one Chapter 3 from another.

Restoring an item

Each item has a Restore button that brings it back. Restoring is smart about context: if you delete a scene and later restore it, DragonWriter also restores anything it lives inside that was deleted too — its chapter, its part, and its story — so the restored scene is actually reachable again rather than stranded.

Permanently deleting an item

If you are sure you no longer need something, use Delete permanently to purge it. You are asked to confirm, because this cannot be undone. Purging a container also removes what it holds: deleting a story permanently removes every part, chapter, and scene within it, along with its cover and any uploaded images; deleting a chapter removes its scenes.

A quiet reward

Keeping your workspace tidy does not go entirely unnoticed — there is a hidden badge in it somewhere for the diligent. Which one, and how, is left as a surprise.
