Profiles

Every member has a public-within-the-community profile at /users/<username>. It is the face of your account that other members see. Viewing a profile requires being logged in, so profiles are never visible to the public web.

What a profile shows

A profile brings together, in one place:

your avatar and username
a staff badge, if you are a moderator or admin
your member since date, shown to the month
your bio, if you have written one
your earned achievement badges
the challenges you have joined
the stories you have chosen to share

Achievements

The profile shows your badge ladders for words written and writing streaks. The whole ladder is always drawn: tiers you have earned are in full colour, and the rest are greyed out, so a profile shows your progress rather than just your trophies. Special milestone badges appear only once you have earned them. See badges for what each one means.

Stories

Only stories you have opted to share appear, and nothing shows until you turn on Share on profile on a story's overview page. Shared stories render in two ways:

A published story shows its full library tile, with blurb and like count, and links to the reader.
An unpublished story shows its cover and details (title, status, word count, genre, tags) but links nowhere and is marked Unpublished, because there is nothing public to open.

A story whose publication has been taken down by staff is left off the profile entirely.

Challenges

The profile lists the challenges you have signed up to, newest-finishing first, each linking back to the challenge. Leaving a challenge removes it from this list. See challenges.

Editing your own profile

Your bio and avatar are the two things you control on your profile, and you edit them from your own settings rather than the profile page:

Set your bio and avatar on the Profile tab of your account settings.
Adjust avatar and appearance options under appearance.
